Biography
Brian is a Partner and leads the BTG British Virgin Islands (BVI) office. His areas of speciality include corporate insolvency, forensic accounting and fraud investigations. He is extensively experienced in asset recovery and often works closely with litigation funders, legal practitioners and counsel to secure maximum returns in highly sophisticated cases.
He also leads BTG’s Digital Asset Investigation Unit, established to tackle digital asset fraud, build risk and compliance frameworks and trace and recover digital assets across wallets, exchanges and decentralised finance platforms.
Brian has over 22 years of experience navigating intricate cross-border assignments across the financial services, real estate development, aviation, hospitality and education sectors. He operates seamlessly across onshore and offshore assignments as his dual insolvency licensing authorises formal appointments across multiple territories, including interim receiverships and provisional liquidations.
His engagements include serving as liquidator for a cryptocurrency trading platform and seeking asset recovery litigation against former directors; orchestrating the systematic repatriation and realisation of substantial yacht chattels held through BVI structures; and executing a joint appointment with Hong Kong liquidators that recovered over $500 million for international bondholders with Chinese investments. His portfolio encompasses numerous corporate simplification and exit management assignments involving property de-enveloping and strategic asset distributions.
Prior to BTG, Brian honed his expertise within a Big Four accountancy firm's transaction and reorganisation services division, managing engagements characterised by multi-jurisdictional complexity.
Brian previously served as President of the Restructuring and Insolvency Specialists Association (RISA) British Virgin Islands and currently holds an inaugural position on INSOL International's Offshore Advisory Council, concentrating on education and legislative development within offshore jurisdictions.
He maintains qualifications as a Chartered Accountant and holds Insolvency Practitioner licenses in both the United Kingdom and British Virgin Islands.
