Paul Appleton

Paul is a Senior Partner based in the BTG London office. His specialities include restructuring, turnaround, board advisory, corporate insolvency and contentious personal insolvency. His sector experience is varied, including professional sport (football and rugby clubs), large property and retail groups, IT, media, luxury fashion, leisure and innovative energy.  

Paul’s assignments often involve high profile individuals and organisations. He has substantial cross-border experience handling multi-jurisdictional issues, including across Europe, the Americas, and the Asia Pacific.  
His recent assignments include the sale and rescue of a well-known, high-end jewellery business which entered administration after one quarter of trading, and the administration and sale of a couture brand and associated prêt-à-porter fashion items. He worked on a complex fraud case which involved the liquidation of various companies and the bankruptcy of an individual which required multi-jurisdictional asset tracing.   

He acted for a holding company with underlying businesses in property management services, including a water park, media entity and air charter service. The company was rescued as a going concern and director control was subsequently restored, resulting in the repayment of the secured creditor owed in excess of £70 million.

As a respected member of the advisory community, Paul is invited to share his multijurisdictional experiences at industry conferences and programmes held by professional associations, such as the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3), INSOL Europe and INSOL International.  

Paul became a Chartered Accountant in 1989 and he is a licensed Insolvency Practitioner.
